The crowd, applause meter, and Royal Commissioner determine two weekly qualifiers. When the result is too close, selected performers may face a one-minute Royal Sing-Off using a song chosen by the host.
* If the final weekly decision is too close to call, the Royal Commissioner may summon selected performers to a one-minute Royal Sing-Off featuring a host-selected song.
September through July follows the standard three-qualifier circuit. August uses two accelerated qualifiers, advancing three performers per night; the August Monarch is crowned on the third Tuesday, and the Annual Tournament of Champions closes the season on the fourth Tuesday. The next season begins immediately afterward.

Questions from the court
Know before
you sing.
The full official rules control the competition. Here are the answers performers usually need first.
Do I have to be a professional singer?
No. Performance, entertainment value, crowd command, and presence all matter. This is karaoke—not a conservatory audition.
Can duets or groups compete?
Yes. Solos, duets, and groups of up to three may enter. Every member pays the applicable individual entry rate or presents a qualifying venue ticket, and the act shares one prize.
How do I receive the $5 Website Royal Rate?
Submit this website's performer preregistration form by 11:59 PM Monday before your selected Tuesday event. The website issues your unique Royal Passphrase. When you arrive, give the host your registered name and passphrase. After they are matched in the Commissioner's Ledger, you pay $5 per performer onsite. Social-media and walk-up registrations are $10 per performer. Submissions received after the cutoff automatically move to the following Tuesday.
Can two contestants sing the same song?
Not during the same qualifying night. Once an eligible contestant officially registers a song, that song is unavailable for that night.
Are explicit songs allowed?
Yes. Songs must be available through the approved KaraFun catalog. Original songs, props, and live instruments are not permitted.
Can I come back if I do not qualify?
Yes. A non-winning performer may return during another qualifying week and compete again.
How is the final decision made?
Crowd response and the official applause meter guide Lord Taurus, the Royal Commissioner, whose final ruling confirms the result.
